Creating a Web Page in FrontPage

 

 

Create a Web Page

 

 

q       Choose File > New > Page. FrontPage displays the Task Pane.

q       In the New from Template section of the Task Pane, select Page Templates.

q       FrontPage opens the Page Templates dialog box and presents a set of common page templates.

q       Select the template you want.

q       Click OK to create the new page.

q       Right click anywhere on the page and choose Page Properties from the shortcut menu.

q       Enter descriptive title for the page. Click OK to close the Page Properties dialog box.

q       Choose File > Save. The Save As dialog box opens.

q       Enter the name of the file in the File Name field.

q       Click Save to save the page.

 

Adjust the Text Style

 

 

Change the Font

q       Click the Front drop-down list to display a list of fonts.

q       Best to stick with common fonts, such as Ariel or Times New Roman, which everyone has.

Change the Size

q       Click the Font Size drop-down list to display the font sizes.

Apply Effects

q       To apply a bold, italic, or underline effect to the selected text, click one of the appropriate buttons.

Change the Text Color

q       The current selected color is visible in the Font Color button. To apply this color, just click the Font Color button.

To apply a different color to the selected text:

q       Click the small down arrow next to the Font Color button.

q       Click on the list to choose the color.

 

 

 

 

Add an Image

 

From Your Hard Drive

q       Choose Insert > Picture > From File.

q       Locate image either on hard drive, CD, or floppy disk.

q       Select image

q       Click Insert to place the graphic on the page

 

From the Internet

q       Find graphic on Internet (watch for trademark infringements)

q       Right-click on the picture and choose Copy

q       Return to the web page and right-click and choose Paste.

 

 

Format the Page

 

Set Page Properties

q       Right-click anywhere on the page and choose Page Properties from the shortcut menu. Alternatively, you choose File > Properties.

 

General Tab

q       Change the title of the page by typing it in the Title field.

 

Background Tab

q       To use a single color for the page background, click the Background drop-down list in the Colors section of the Background tab. Choose the color you want to use from the Color tool.

 

Insert a Table

 

 

 

 

Insert a Table from the Standard Toolbar

q       Click the Insert Table button. FrontPage displays a small worksheet from which you can choose the number of rows and columns you want in your table.

q       Drag the mouse pointer over the worksheet.

q       Release the left mouse button when you have the number of columns and rows.

q       Once that you lease the left mouse button, the table appears.

 

Insert a Table from Table Menu

q       Choose Table > Insert > Table. This displays the Insert Table dialog box.

q       Use the fields in the Insert Table dialog box to configure the table

q       Specify the number of rows

q       Specify the number of columns

q       Set the table alignment

q       Set the border size

q       Click the OK button to create the table.

 

 

Add Rows and Columns

q       To insert a single row above the currently selected cell or row, click the cell (or select the row) and choose Insert Row from the cell’s shortcut menu, or click the Insert Row button in the Table toolbar.

q       To insert a single column to the left of the currently selected cell or column, click the cell (or select the column) and choose the Insert Column button in the Table toolbar.

q       To control the position and number of added rows and columns, choose Table > Insert > Rows or Columns. This displays the Insert Rows Or Columns dialog box.

 

Add Text Hyperlinks to Pages

 

Create Text Links to New Pages in Your Web Site

q       In Page View, select the text that will be used as the hyperlink.

q       Right-click the selected text and choose Hyperlink from the shortcut menu. Alternatively, click the Hyperlink button in the Standard toolbar or choose Insert > Hyperlink.

q       Click the Create New Document button in the list of buttons at the left edge of the dialog box. FrontPage displays a new version of the Insert Hyperlink dialog box.

q       Enter the name of the new document in the Name of New Document field.

q       In the When To Edit section, choose when you want to edit the new document:

q       Edit the new document later – When you complete the creation of the page and hyperlink, the new page is created but you are still viewing the page into which you inserted the hyperlink.

q       Edit the new document now – When you complete the creation of the page and hyperlink, the new page is displayed, ready for editing.

q       Click OK to create the new page and hyperlink. The new page is a blank Web page.

 

Create Text Links to Existing Pages in Your Web Site

q       In Page View, select the text that will be used as the hyperlink.

q       Right-click the selected text and choose Hyperlink form the shortcut menu. Alternatively, click the Hyperlink button in the Standard toolbar or choose Insert > Hyperlink.

q       Create the hyperlink in one of the following three ways:

q       Click the Existing File or Web Page button and select a page in your current web site from the list of files in the Insert Hyperlink dialog box.

q       Click the Folder button (labeled Browse For File) to open the Link To File dialog box and navigate to a page that is stored on your hard drive or network drive. Click the file to which you want to link.

q       Use the Address field to type the exact path to the file to which you want to link.

q       When the page to which you want to link appears in the Address field, click OK to create the link. You will know that the link was created because the text is now blue and underlined.

 

Create Text Links to External Web Sites

q       In Page View, select the text that will be used as the hyperlink.

q       Right-click the selected text and choose Hyperlink form the shortcut menu. Alternatively, click the Hyperlink button in the Standard toolbar, or choose Insert > Hyperlink. The Insert Hyperlink dialog box opens.

q       Click the middle button in the row of buttons adjacent to the Look In field. IT is labeled Browse the Web. This action opens your browser

q       Use the standard browser techniques to navigate to the page to which you want to link. Once that you have reached the page, return to FrontPage.

q       The Insert Hyperlink dialog box now shows the site in the Address field. Click OK to create a hyperlink to this field.

 

 

E-mail from a Hyperlink

q       In the Page view, select the text that will be used as the hyperlink. If the text doesn’t already exist, type it into the page and then select it.

q       Right-click the selected text and choose Hyperlink from the shortcut menu. Alternatively, click the Hyperlink button in the Standard toolbar, or choose Insert > Hyperlink. Then Insert Hyperlink dialog box opens.

q       Click the E-Mail Address button to open a new version of the Insert Hyperlink dialog box.

q       Enter the e-mail address in the E-mail Address field of the dialog box. As you begin to type the e-mail address, FrontPage automatically fills in the necessary “mailto” keyword.

q       If you wish, you can specify the subject of the e-mail as well as typing it into the Subject field.

q       Click OK to close the Insert Hyperlink dialog box and create the e-mail hyperlink.

 

 

Publish Your Web Site

Publishing to the Server

q       Select File > Publish Web. If you have never published the Web site before, FrontPage opens the Publish Destination dialog box.

q       Type the URL to which you are going to publish your Web site. For example, it might look like http://www servername.net/username/.

q       Enter your username and password in the dialog box.

q       Click OK to open the Publish Web dialog box.

q       Click Publish and wait while your Web site is published.

q       FrontPage begins publishing your pages to the Web site. You can watch the progress as it proceeds.

q       Once the publishing finishes successfully, FrontPage prompts you to click the supplied hyperlink to view your published site.
