à        Treat your laptop with care.  While it is durable, it is also breakable.

Do not drop it or leave it out in extreme temperatures.  Never leave it out in the rain, heat, or snow

à        Make back-up files daily and store them on your network account.

à        Drop by your student Help Desk as soon as you notice problems with your laptop.

à        Charge your battery before coming to school. Allow your battery to drain to 3% or below at least once a month.

à        Download and install Windows updates as requested.

à        Run a Rapid Restore backup before adding new software to your laptop.

à        Make sure your laptop is insured.

à        Use only LCD approved products to clean your laptop screen as other products may void the manufacturer’s warranty.

DO NOT:

à        Loan your laptop to anyone.

à        Jar or move the laptop when it is operating.  Avoid walking around with the laptop on, even in sleep or standby mode.  Although your laptop is equipped with a shock absorber for your hard drive, damage can still occur.

à        Scratch, hit, twist or push/touch the surface of your screen.  Do not close the screen with anything lying on your keyboard.  This will damage your screen; screen damage is not covered by the warranty.

à        Place drinks on or near your laptop.  One accidental spill onto the keyboard can ruin the motherboard – this is not covered by the warranty.

à        Spray water or any type of liquid on your laptop to clean it.

à        Use your laptop as a food tray.

à        Leave your laptop unattended anywhere on or off school campus.

à        Leave network or power cords plugged in to your laptop when not in use.  Never place your laptop in its case while cords are plugged in.  Avoid walking around with cords plugged in.  Do not wrap cords around the laptop for storage.  Damaged caused by leaving your cords plugged in is not covered by the warranty.

à        Download and install any un-approved software onto your computer such as music files, games, etc.

à        Click on ANY links sent via IM or found in profiles.

à        Overload your laptop backpack with books.  You will compress the monitor thereby damaging it – not covered by the warranty

à        Leave your laptop plugged in and turned on all the time.  You should routinely turn your computer off and unplug it at night to give it a chance to cool down.

à        Make changes to your operating system or major configuration of your laptop without permission.

à        Remove any software installed on your laptop by the school.

à        Add parts to your laptop that are not IBM approved.  Failure of these parts may result in voiding your warranty.
